About this event
The Pomona College Band will offer a program of classics, including a rousing rendition of Leonard Bernstein's Wrong-Note Rag, and modern works for the genre. Hear music by Carolyn Bremer, Benjamin Britten, Morten Lauridsen, William Schuman, and John Philip Sousa.
One of the oldest college bands in the country, the Pomona College Band was founded in 1909. Led by emeritus professor Graydon Beeks, the band’s membership is drawn from students, faculty, and staff of The Claremont Colleges and members of the local community. Its goal is to prepare significant music in a collaborative atmosphere for performance at the highest level. They present two sets of concerts each academic year.
Program: Carolyn Bremer: Impulse Engine (2006) Benjamin Britten, arr. Jan Bach: The Courtly Dances from Gloriana (1953/1995) Martin Lauridsen, arr. Robert Reynolds: Contre Qui, Rose (1993/2006) William Schuman: Chester (1956) Leonard Bernstein, arr. Ted Ricketts: Wrong-Note Rag (1953/2005) John Philip Sousa, ed. Keith Brion and Loras John Schissel: The Fairest of the Fair. March (1908)
