About this event
On the banks of the Arno River in Florence, not far from the architectural masterpieces of the Renaissance, is a small Indian tomb dating from the nineteenth century. It commemorates the Maharaja Rajaram of Kolhapur (1850-70), a young Indian prince who died in Florence while on a European tour. Set against the backdrop of nineteenth-century India, Italy, and England, Professor Dadlani will examine the architectural monument and the life of the prince, exploring the themes of globalization, mobility, and cultural representation.
