About this event

UC Riverside Department of Music presents:

Todd Moellenberg, Pioneers of Form: A Piano Recital

This solo piano recital features influential works from the repertoire: Mozart’s Sonata in B-flat Major, K. 333, Debussy’s Images , Book I, and Webern’s Variations . Alongside them are selections from Bill Hopkins’s highly experimental études en série , which seem to both absorb and obliterate them.

Bio:

Todd Moellenberg is a pianist and artist based in Los Angeles. He has been featured in performances with Piano Spheres, Ojai Music Festival, Monday Evening Concerts, Wild Up, Brightwork, LA Philharmonic, PARTCH Ensemble, and actress Laverne Cox. He has worked closely with composers Chaya Czernowin, Roger Reynolds, Yiheng Yvonne Wu, Rand Steiger, Bunita Marcus, Thomas Meadowcroft and Xavier Beteta, with recordings released on Deutsche Grammophon, Sideband, and Petrichor. His creative work encompasses composition, video, poetry, and performance art, and has been featured by Conrad Tao, Music for Your Inbox, Weirdo Night, Dog Star Orchestra, and LA Road Concerts. Todd received his DMA in contemporary piano performance at UC San Diego, under the mentorship of Aleck Karis. His dissertation demonstrates how the work of Ravel and Jean Barraqué can generate poetic forms and structures for durational performance. He currently lectures and instructs piano at UC Riverside.
