- ➤ On Dec. 8 following the Pearl Harbor attack, county officials requested a vessel be named USS San Bernardino, prompting the conversion of a 1928 diesel yacht that served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during WWII; local residents continue to honor this legacy in annual remembrances. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ San Bernardino County Behavioral Health’s Volunteer Services Program recently hosted Tomorrow’s Talent Pathfinder Day to give ten high school students (from Oak Hills High and Sultana High) a chance to learn about behavioral health and early childhood education. Presentations and a painting activity sparked insights on resources and careers. San Bernardino County
- ➤ San Bernardino County Library is joining Jumpstart’s Read for the Record celebration on Feb. 26 with the picture book See Marcus Grow by Marcus Bridgewater and Reggie Brown — library branches will host storytimes and the title will also be available online. San Bernardino County
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The County Office of Emergency Services and the SBA have opened a Disaster Loan Outreach Center at Fire Station 40 (6584 Caliente Rd, Oak Hills) to help residents and businesses recover from December storms with low-interest disaster loans. Applicants must meet deadlines for physical damage or economic injury loans. San Bernardino County
- ➤ San Bernardino County shared a video showing volunteers, Board members and county clerk Josie Gonzales (supporting the unhoused) during the 2026 Point-in-Time Count across cities and unincorporated areas. The count expanded field resources and introduced a Story Map to guide planning when results are released later this year. San Bernardino County
