COMMUNITY NEWS

  • San Bernardino County’s In-Home Supportive Services Public Authority is seeking new and experienced caregivers to support older adults and people with disabilities. The organization will host its second annual Caregiver Training Summit on Wednesday, Apr. 8 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Ontario (register by calling 1-866-985-6322).  San Bernardino County
  • San Bernardino County Animal Care hosted the Paws and Partners Collaboration Summit on March 31, where local rescue partners discussed initiatives such as the Bloomington center and Devore shelter expansion and toured the Animal Care Mobile Unit to learn about spay and neuter services.  San Bernardino County

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bruce Herwig’s photos capture the rich history of the Asistencia in Redlands, originally built in the early 1800s as a mission outpost and later restored by county and federal efforts. The site was transferred to the Redlands Conservancy in 2018 to preserve local heritage.  San Bernardino County
  • The late 19th-century Kite-Shaped Track once looped through the valley with trains running every two hours, boosting growth by connecting communities and supporting the citrus industry. Remnants of depots and hiking trails still mark the route in Highland — and in Redlands.  San Bernardino County

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Staff from the Public Health Department’s Friday Night Live program hosted Colony High School students for a field trip today, with workshops on leadership, drug prevention and career pathways in health. Students also toured the department’s mobile testing and medical units (organized by the program).  San Bernardino County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • San Bernardino County Fire Station 53 in Baker covers more than 5,000 square miles along I-15, responding to truck fires, traffic collisions, and stranded travelers while serving over 220,000 vehicles daily (reminding drivers to pack water and maintain fuel levels) amid harsh Mojave Desert conditions.  San Bernardino County
  • Wendy Rosales, Child Support Operations Manager with 12 years at the county, is honored during Women’s History Month for her steady leadership and work with local families. She advanced from welcoming customers at reception to improving staff training and operations at the department.  San Bernardino County
  • City and county leaders celebrated the groundbreaking for the E Street affordable veteran housing project on March 25 in San Bernardino. The $28.4 million project, with a $5 million county contribution, will include 30 homes with modern amenities and on-site services and is expected to open in 2027.  San Bernardino County
