- ➤ County officials, including Congresswoman Norma Torres, celebrated Prado Regional Park’s ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 8 by unveiling a new gatehouse, food court, boat dock, and monument sign in Chino, as future improvements like sports courts and upgraded campground facilities are planned—helping residents enjoy outdoor activities. - ➤ Thanks to Rialto photographer Sleiman Moussa, this week’s column spotlights Yucaipa Regional Park - a local hotspot for birdwatching, fishing, camping and a summer swim complex. The park offers scenic trails and picnic spaces along with areas for sports. San Bernardino County
- ➤ On April 3, Animal Care partnered with Wings of Rescue, and six shelter dogs flew from San Bernardino County to start new lives in loving homes. - ➤ First 5 San Bernardino and Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital will celebrate the Week of the Young Child from April 11-18 as the hospital lobby transforms into a gallery showcasing paper doll artwork by young patients, emphasizing a focus on child health and creativity. - ➤ Samuel Merrill, a Civil War veteran and former Iowa governor, moved to the San Bernardino valley in the 1800s and bought 20,000 acres to spur local growth; in 1876 he sold land for $1 to form Rialto, Fontana, and Corona (a street now honors him in Fontana). San Bernardino County
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Topgolf entered a 20-year lease with the county in 2019 & supplies more than $625,000 in annual revenue to fund upgrades in regional parks and other community attractions throughout the area. San Bernardino County
- ➤ On April 9, the sheriff’s department honored 56 individuals for life-saving actions in 23 2025 incidents—Deputy Andrew Nunez received a posthumous award for sacrificing his life during a violent encounter—which showcased exceptional public service in our community. San Bernardino County
