COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families of all ages will attend the American Girl Tea Party on Saturday, June 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Dr. Mildred Dalton Henry Elementary School, organized by community leaders including Cheryl Brown in partnership with the city library foundation and local schools—offering educational activities, craft games, and door prizes.  San Bernardino City News Group
  • Inland Regional Center has launched the Blue Envelope Program Statewide Research Project in partnership with Autism Society Inland Empire, Fontana Police, San Bernardino County Fire, and American Medical Response to improve law enforcement training and community engagement with people with disabilities. The project uses blue envelopes and branded tools to support safe interactions and preserve privacy — and it invites public safety agencies and community groups across California to help shape best practices.  Inland Empire Community News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kaeley Diaz, a senior flute player at Colton High School, was awarded the $1,000 Dr.G Band Scholarship Award on May 16 for her musical talent and leadership in the band program (she has played in the Yellowjacket Band for four years). She also served on the Youth Council and will attend Cal-Poly Pomona in the fall to study criminology.  CityNewsGroup
  • The Southern California Association of Governments awarded SCAG Scholarships to two Inland Empire students to support their academic pursuits. Danaya Figueroa will graduate this month and plan to attend UC Berkeley while Matthew Thomas will graduate next month and attend UC Irvine—each set to receive $4,000.  Fontana Herald News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • San Bernardino County's Workforce Development Board, in partnership with Fourth District Supervisor Curt Hagman and the Public Defender’s Office, will host a job fair and record-clearing event on May 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at +Ontario International Airport’s iconic Terminal 1+ (+1940 Moore Way+).  Inland Empire Community News
  • Four Inland Empire water agencies, including the cities of Chino, Montclair, and Ontario and the Monte Vista Water District, sent a letter to the California Water Commission asking for a review of the Chino Basin Program’s funding under the Water Storage Investment Program (WSIP). They said clear financial terms are needed after data showed a 14,000 acre-foot drop in the basin’s safe yield and requested a meeting for further discussion (CBP).  Fontana Herald News
  • On May 13, Fontana City Council approved the Entertainment Center Overlay and Corridors Project with a 4-1 vote to revitalize Sierra Avenue corridors under the General Plan. The new project will allow food halls, retail, entertainment and hotel developments while banning car washes and automotive uses — it also permits the annual car show to continue with a temporary permit.  Fontana Herald News
