On Sunday, June 1, 2025, community members gathered at American Legion Post 155 in Colton for Relay for Life Colton/Grand Terrace—over 400 people joined to support cancer survivors and caregivers as Melissa Perez shared her battle with cancer and moments of silence honored those lost—creating a heartfelt tribute.
🚧 Accidents
At approximately 8:15 a.m. today, a fire broke out at the office building at 582 W Valley Blvd near Colton High School as students arrived for classes, and firefighters from Colton, Loma Linda, Rialto and San Bernardino arrived by 8:30 a.m. to contain the blaze—by 9 a.m. they had checked the building for any trapped people.
🎓 Education
At Fairfax Elementary School, Phi Beta Sigma fraternity adopted the school on May 7 and pledged mentorship and resources to support students—marking the first Divine Nine group to join the Adopt-a-School program— as district leaders celebrate a renewed commitment to community education.
🏥 Health
Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital put the final steel beam in place on its new 5-story Pediatric Specialty Clinics building on May 28 — the 105,000-square-foot facility will bring together over 20 pediatric services and serve 75,000 patients each year, with care set to begin in November. Hospital leaders celebrated the milestone as a major step forward in improving treatment options for children in the region.
