COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ San Bernardino's Department of Animal Services will join over 150 shelters for California Adopt-a-Pet Day on Saturday, June 7 to help 5,000 pets find new homes with all adoption fees waived. Residents can visit the City Animal Shelter from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Satellite Adoption Center from noon to 4 p.m.—shelter staff will provide vaccinations, microchipping and spaying or neutering services during the event. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Fontana Unified School District has launched a new early education program for 2-year-olds at 24 elementary schools. The 3-hour part‐day program uses a play‐based curriculum with toilet training and smaller class sizes—only 16 students per class—and requires families to meet income guidelines or show special needs documentation. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On June 4, the San Bernardino City Council voted 7-1 to name Eric Levitt as the permanent city manager amid a divided selection process—he replaces several interim leaders. Levitt, who is currently city manager in Fullerton, will start on August 4 after a required 45-day notice—his deal offers a $333,000 base salary with extra benefits. Inland Empire Community News
