- ➤ San Bernardino Valley College will hold its fourth annual SummerFest in collaboration with the San Bernardino Symphony on Saturday, July 5, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.—the event will feature a Ferris wheel, an expanded kids’ zone, food trucks, and vendor booths, and will end with a live concert at 7:30 p.m. where the orchestra will try to break a record with 192 piccolo players before a fireworks display set to Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture lights the night. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Norton Elementary School earned its fourth California Green Ribbon School Award from the CDE—jumping from Silver last year to Gold—by promoting healthy eating and air quality programs, while Kimbark Elementary School received its third award through its Technology and Environmental Science Magnet Program in Devore that offers hands-on learning in its gardens and science lab. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ UC Riverside announced plans to build a new teaching hospital to help address the doctor shortage in the Inland Empire. The project will begin with an outpatient center on a 20-acre Riverside site leased from TDA Investments—later phases will add a 280-bed hospital and more clinics. Inland Empire Community News
