Good morning, San Bernardino.
🚨 Crime
Today, ICE raids targeting day laborers in Montclair, Ontario, Riverside and San Bernardino resulted in over a dozen arrests including a 30-year-old Honduran gardener detained at an Ontario clinic—witnesses described aggressive tactics—and immigrant rights groups plan rapid response deployments.
San Bernardino County Fire and partnered fire departments confiscated 28,050 pounds of illegal fireworks and issued 115 citations with fines totaling $143,750 since May — an effort to keep dangerous fireworks out of local communities.
🎓 Education
San Bernardino County Schools worked with the Department of Behavioral Health to host a wellness conference from July 8–11 at Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim where 1,000 educators, students, and community leaders learned about mental health, trauma care, and using AI in classrooms.
The event provided breakout sessions and expert keynotes (including Erica Alfaro, Molly Grisham, and Simon T. Bailey) to share practical strategies for creating safe school environments.
🏥 Health
Dr. Gabrielle Pina, a pediatric hospitalist at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, warned that 32 food deserts in San Bernardino are leaving low-income families with limited access to affordable produce and poor nutrition.
She urged for policies and community actions—like better transit routes and community gardens—to help prevent rising childhood obesity and other health issues.
