- ➤ San Bernardino County has started a new video series showing hidden local gems. In its first episode, First District Supervisor Col. Paul Cook (Ret.) highlights Elmer’s Bottle Tree Ranch, a two-acre site on National Trails Highway in Oro Grande that was built in the early 2000s by Elmer Long and now has 200 trees and more than 1,000 bottles that draw visitors worldwide. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The San Bernardino County Library celebrated the graduation of 29 adults from its COHS program on Aug. 8 at the Fontana Lewis Library and Technology Center—four graduates received special recognition from family and community supporters. Funded by the California State Library, the program helps adults earn diplomas and career training certificates—opening new opportunities for higher education and better careers. - ➤ El Sol Neighborhood Education Center celebrated its first graduating class of 11 home visitor apprentices in a ceremony that marked a milestone in its long partnership with First 5 San Bernardino—showing years of work that began in 2007. The program trains local parents and community leaders with 32 units of coursework and hands-on experience to help support families in their homes. San Bernardino County
- ➤ Tomás D. Morales, CSUSB president, said at the convocation on Aug. 21 that he will leave his job at the end of the 2025-26 school year after serving for 13 years. The CSU Board of Trustees will choose his replacement and invite community input—Morales recalled his pride—ensuring a smooth transition. Inland Empire Community News

- ➤ On Aug. 15, California Water Resources Control Board member Nichole Morgan toured septic-to-sewer projects at Arrowhead Farms and Arrow Route—efforts aimed at improving water quality and public health for about 2,500 residents. Board of Supervisors Chairman Dawn Rowe said the projects demonstrate the county’s strong commitment to upgrading local infrastructure. San Bernardino County
- ➤ The Transitional Assistance Department won three NACo Achievement Awards for programs that improved customer service by setting up an automated call system and a pilot to help people at risk of losing their homes — director James LoCurto said the awards show the team’s hard work. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Today, the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health WIC program launched its first Breast Pump Loan Program at St. Bernardine Medical Center to help mothers with newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit. The free service began after the hospital received 10 Medela Symphony pumps on Aug. 6 — the program aims to support milk production and plans to expand to more hospitals. San Bernardino County
