- ➤ Deana Bohnsack of Victorville sent in photos of Silverwood Lake, a popular destination in Hesperia that draws visitors with over 13 miles of trails. The lake offers a peaceful stroll or a challenging climb (including the Silverwood Lake Marina Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, and a Multi-Use Bike Trail) and invites guests to plan their visit today. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Children and Family Services runs the year-round Youth Enrichment and Exploration Program (YEEP) that gives foster youth funds to join sports, art, and cultural activities—this summer, the program partnered with Children’s Network to send 562 youth on camp trips across Southern California. - ➤ The San Bernardino County Library’s Ani-Makerspace at the Fontana Lewis Library and Technology Center is offering hands-on classes for animation, robotics and design in partnership with Garner Holt Education Through Imagination — a global leader in themed entertainment. - ➤ On October 16 at 10:16 a.m., county employees and students practiced earthquake safety during the Great ShakeOut drill—this event also marked the launch of the Ready SB County App, which provides real-time alerts, hazard maps, and safety check-ins for residents before, during and after emergencies. - ➤ San Bernardino County Code Enforcement officers were recognized by the Land Use Services Department during the second week of October for their hard work and commitment to keeping neighborhoods safe—showing that their efforts in maintaining building standards are appreciated even when they often go unseen. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ San Bernardino County Behavioral Health launched the WE2 Program—a 16-week class to help people manage their weight, exercise, and control their emotions. The pilot began in mid-September at Fontana and Rialto clinics and will soon expand to the Phoenix Clinic while also pairing with a new GLP-1 treatment for metabolic challenges. San Bernardino County
- ➤ San Antonio Hospital began treating patients in 1907 in a modest building with 18 beds, and after Frances Mary Paul donated funds a new facility was dedicated on July 30—eventually evolving into the 363-bed San Antonio Regional Hospital that now has over 600 physicians and 2,500 care team members. Its growth reflects a long history of service to the Upland community and modern advances in medical care. San Bernardino County
- ➤ San Bernardino County Public Health is urging residents to get vaccinated for COVID-19, flu, and RSV and to follow extra precautions like wearing masks in crowded indoor spaces—these steps will help protect high-risk groups during the respiratory virus season from November through April. The update comes with state recommendations that ensure vaccine access through local health plans and timely testing and treatments for those at risk. San Bernardino County
