In the summer of 1966, teenagers reported a big, furry creature—called the Lytle Creek monster—near the old Fontana Drag strip in an area known for its gold rush that began in 1860 and ended after a flood in 1891.

Local records also mention other strange sightings in the Inland Empire, leaving the true identity of the creature a mystery.

Fontana Elementary’s Redwood robotics team competed in the World Robot Olympiad in Manila in September — finishing 13th among teams from Asia, Europe, and Africa — after a top five finish at the national tournament in July.
