CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ In the summer of 1966, teenagers reported a big, furry creature—called the Lytle Creek monster—near the old Fontana Drag strip in an area known for its gold rush that began in 1860 and ended after a flood in 1891. Local records also mention other strange sightings in the Inland Empire, leaving the true identity of the creature a mystery. San Bernardino County
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Fontana Elementary’s Redwood robotics team competed in the World Robot Olympiad in Manila in September — finishing 13th among teams from Asia, Europe, and Africa — after a top five finish at the national tournament in July. The team called Two Bunny Robots gained valuable experience and will keep learning robotics skills under the guidance of their coaches and USEL. Fontana Herald News

- ➤ Dr. Guillermo Valenzuela—chair of ARMC Women’s Health—was honored with the HASC Lifetime Achievement Award for his decades of work improving maternal care in the Inland Empire and for launching programs that support at-risk youth and underserved patients. - ➤ San Bernardino County Department of Public Health’s Black Infant Health Program joined partners at the 2025 California Black Birth Equity Summit by presenting a collaborative video—showing how community efforts and culturally responsive care aim to boost birth outcomes and health equity for Black mothers and infants. - ➤ San Bernardino County's Department of Aging and Adult Services – Public Guardian announced the Age Wise program to support mental health and wellness for older adults and individuals with disabilities by offering counseling, therapy, and access to essential resources. The program serves adults aged 59 and older through home visits and telehealth to help maintain independence and improve quality of life. San Bernardino County

- ➤ Elmer’s Bottle Tree Ranch in Oro Grande is a two-acre public attraction built in the early 2000s by Elmer Long using recycled bottles on metal pipe and tree limbs—featuring over 200 trees and more than 1,000 bottles and welcoming visitors free of charge. San Bernardino County
