- ➤ This holiday season, the Probation Department and the Sheriff’s Employees’ Benefit Association supported 19 local children in a 'Shop with a Cop' event that offered them a special shopping experience. Probation staff provided encouragement while the children picked gifts that met their interests (fostering independence and community trust). San Bernardino County
- ➤ San Bernardino County Children and Family Services has provided foster youth with enriching experiences through its Flexible Family Supports Program, which funded sports, college tours, and summer camps during fiscal year 2024–2025. - ➤ San Bernardino County Children and Family Services opened its new Highland Campus on Dec. 3 — the facility will house a Family Resource Center to connect children and families with vital support as county leaders celebrated the milestone. San Bernardino County
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The San Bernardino County Preschool Services Department welcomed the 2025-2026 Policy Council representatives at a two-day Oct. 8+9 orientation to prepare parents and community members for guiding Head Start and Early Head Start programs; the new members elected key leadership roles and will meet monthly to shape local education. - ➤ San Bernardino County Library and First 5 are expanding the free '1000 Books Before Kindergarten' program to encourage daily reading among young learners and prepare them for academic success; families can register at all 32 branches to receive a welcome gift, reading logs, and milestone incentives. - ➤ San Bernardino County Fire hosted Qwake Technologies at its training center to test the C-THRU Navigator in live fire and cold smoke conditions. The AR system (offering four vision modes, real-time video streaming, a digital compass and Mayday alert) aims to boost firefighter safety and readiness. San Bernardino County
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ San Bernardino County is seeing a rise in hand, foot and mouth disease cases among young children in schools and daycares. Health officials urge parents to keep sick children home until they are fever-free for 24 hours, mouth sores are healed, and blisters have scabbed over (Dr. Sharon Wang advised caution).
