- ➤ County Human Services, Administrative Office and Human Resources workers raised nearly $20,500 in a month-long food drive for Community Action Partnership’s Holiday Basket Program, hosting turkey giveaway events in Joshua Tree, San Bernardino and Adelanto that brought holiday meals to 5,000 residents — supporting families facing food insecurity. - ➤ Today KVCR Public Media hosts the Inland Empire's first women-centered film festival at 5 p.m. The Ella Film Festival, founded by local SBVC Film, TV, and Media alumni, features a pink-carpet welcome, a resource expo, a women-in-film panel, and awards for Best Picture, Director, and Cinematography. - ➤ Colton Joint USD received a Golden Bell Award as its Wellness Centers logged 14,362 student visits during the past school year. - ➤ San Bernardino Valley College has been designated as a Black-Serving Institution — a key milestone in its centennial year that reinforces its commitment to Black student success. - ➤ San Bernardino County Library now offers a free one-on-one adult literacy tutoring program that pairs learners, who must be at least 17 and reading below a seventh-grade level, with volunteer tutors trained by the library; weekly sessions will be held at branch locations throughout the county. - ➤ San Bernardino County is inviting volunteers to help with the annual Point-in-Time Count that documents homelessness and guides expansion plans for supportive housing across various neighborhoods; participants must be 18 or older and own a smartphone (training is available in person and online). - ➤ San Bernardino County Fire hosted a demonstration of Seneca's Argo-1, a semi-autonomous UAV designed to help firefighters track heat and suppress vegetation fires; the test aimed to enhance early wildfire detection to protect the community. San Bernardino County
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ San Bernardino County approved a $7.5 million investment this fall to expand Loma Linda University Health’s child abuse program — the funding will increase specialist staffing and add new clinical sites to improve timely forensic evaluations. San Bernardino County
- ➤ Arrowhead Regional Medical Center received the 2025 Quality Leader Award for Population Health from the California Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems and the California Health Care Safety Net Institute — a recognition of its partnership with the Public Health Department that improved rapid testing and treatment across the county. - ➤ Community Health Ambassador Program, launched in Sept. 2024 by Inland Empire Health Plan and county partners, trained 19 local messengers to share preventive care info across the High Desert region. - ➤ San Bernardino County Public Health will wind down its 43-year Nutrition and Wellness Services program early next year. The program built a lasting legacy by connecting residents with nutrition education, wellness fairs, and monthly digital recipes (A Taste of Wellness) that spotlighted local agencies.
