CRIME NEWS

  • Fontana Police responded to a burglary on Sept. 6 that left a young boy without his birthday gifts and then pooled their money to buy him a replacement scooter and toy mask—actions that brightened his birthday while the investigation continues.  Fontana Herald News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Feldheym Central Library in San Bernardino marked its 40-year anniversary on Sept. 29 with historical exhibits, music from the San Bernardino Symphony Youth Orchestra, and a preview of a new Animakerspace that will open early next year — the library received a $6.5M grant for facility upgrades.  Inland Empire Community News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fontana City Council postponed its review of an appeal against a Planning Commission plan to merge six land parcels for building a nearly 400,000 square foot warehouse and will revisit the issue at its meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The Golden State Environmental Justice Alliance claims the Environmental Impact Report is misleading and leaves out key details on environmental justice + project design.  Fontana Herald News

HEALTH NEWS

  • More than 8,600 Kaiser Permanente health care workers in the Inland Empire voted to let their union call a strike—if new contract terms on wages and patient care were not reached as contracts expired on Sept 30 and Oct 1. This vote gives union leaders the power to act if negotiations falter.  Fontana Herald News
